Royal Livingstone & Zambezi Sun

Description:

  • Within spitting distance of the border, on the banks of the Zambezi, is the massive Sun International hotel and entertainment complex, incorporating the two hotels as well as The Activity Centre, an adult playground with a small casino, shops, eateries, offices, and banking facilities. The single biggest reason to book into this flashy resort is its proximity to the falls -- the park entrance is within easy walking distance (100m/328 ft. from the Zambezi Sun), so you can visit as often as you want. The downside is that the Sun is often filled to capacity with tour groups, who share access to all facilities, so there's little chance for privacy other than in your room -- all the more reason to book at the more exclusive and very luxurious Royal Livingstone, where all accommodations overlook the river (book the second floor for better views). Service levels at Livingstone are also excellent -- even if you arrive in a dilapidated taxi from Kasane, looking as if you've lived in the bush for a week, you'll be treated like royalty. (But for a less hotel-like experience, book The River Club or Tongabezi, or look at the Zim options.) Guests get a 10% discount on all adventure bookings done through the hotel.
