Description:
- In the 17th century Chinese sailors originally moved into the the Limehouse region of East London which was destroyed during WWII. A new location was established in Soho, around Gerrard Street, this is the primary section of town to which residents of Hong Kong immigrated after the war. Between the red gates indicating Chinatown, you will to find some of the best Chinese cuisine the city has to offer, along with some pretty cheap souvenirs. At night, this place comes alive with stores, supermarkets, and shops all throwing their wares out on the street for memorized onlookers. In January or February each year (depending on the calendar) Chinatown is the hub of festivities for celebrating the Chinese New Year. Parades, performers, dragons, and eye popping decorations adorn the surrounding area.
