It would be an absolute crime to leave London without sampling Indian cuisine. Nowhere else outside of India will you find such top notch choices of Indian cuisine. From a hole in the wall curry house to Michelin star, London's top Indian restaurants will impress even first timers.
Amaya - London's only Indian Michelin star restaurant, Veeraswamy - London's oldest Indian restaurant in Soho, subterranean Chutney Mary and seven cheap and cheerful Masala Zone restaurants are all owned by the Masala Group. It is the Masala Group who deserve credit for placing the authentic regional flavors of India at the forefront of London's restaurant scene.
Set in the old Westminster Library, The Cinnamon Club is gourmet Indian fit for an expense account or special occasion. The gorgeous setting matches the exquisite food and wine list.
Chowki and Imili both in Soho are lively and affordable spots to refuel. Imili has a pre-theatre menu as does Covent Garden's Moti Mahal. All are a vegetarian's haven with plenty of menu choices. Not on our top ten Indian list, but worh a mention is Sagar in Hammersmith, one of London's most respected vegetarian south Indian hotspots.
While this top ten list focuses predominantly on central London Indian restaurants, it would be out of order not to mention London's suburb Southall located about 10 miles west with the city's largest Asian population. Visiting on a weekend is highly recommended when colorful markets are in full swing. Inexpensive Brilliant restaurant has attracted England's royalty, celebrities and the rest of us for years.
