Things to Do Near London Eye, London, United Kingdom

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • The massive, contemporary Ferris wheel known as the London Eye sits along the Southbank, a stunning and pedestrianized stretch of the river. Finding Top Ten Things to Do Near the London Eye will easily a fill a full day and spill well into the evening without leaving the vicinity.

The Eye overlooks Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey just a few minutes walk across Westminster Bridge. Be sure to stop on the bridge for photographs with marvelous backdrops of either side of the river.

The Southbank is also known as center for the arts. Within the concrete not-so-beautiful buildings of the Royal Festival Hall and the Southbank Centre you'll find numerous concert halls, galleries, theaters and restaurants with events to suit all tastes. Check their websites for the calendar of events, many of which are free.

RIB Voyages speed boat tours depart from the dock just below the London Eye on Millennium Pier and the amphibious London Duck Tour begins just beyond the Eye, across the park on Belvedere. In the same direction is the BFI IMAX, London's most sophisticated cinema and largest screen shows current films as well as documentaries.

From the London Eye the river walk winds along the southern shore of the Thames all the way to London Bridge, passing Gabriel's Wharf, OXO Tower, Shakespeare's Globe and the Golden Hinde. Tourists and locals alike stroll the wide path also popular with skateboarders, cyclists and joggers, especially on weekends. Closer to the Eye around Jubilee Gardens, street entertainers perform for tourists and pose for photographs.
