  • London's is teeming with outdoor spaces, parks and gardens which come alive each spring. Who knew London could be so green. Our top ten list of outdoor things to do in London will diffuse the notion that it always rains here.

London's most famous of the 9 Royal Parks is Hyde Park centrally located and occupies 350 acres bridging the neighborhoods of Knightsbridge and Bayswater. The park's lake known as the Serpentine, popular for hiring boats runs into Kensington Gardens connecting the two parks. Kids adore the Princess Diana playground in the northwest corner, search for the Peter Pan statue in the setting for J.M. Barrie's classic book or run the trails favored by urban joggers.

The Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew requires a half day at minimum to explore the Victorian glass houses, the 250 years of plant history, climb above the treetops and enjoy tea break. You'll be sure to stay much longer than planned when you see the sheer beauty of the gardens.

30,000 roses bloom each year in Queen Mary's Garden within Regent's Park. Also know for the Open Air Theatre summer program and home to the London Zoo. Climb Primrose Hill for panoramic views of London.

Just slightly further afield are Holland Park with a peaceful Japanese garden and Battersea Park used mainly by local Londoners and less congested.

Cruising the Thames in all sorts of river boats is possible or for a more active adventure walk, run or cycle along the Southbank. The pedestrianized path runs from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge providing stunning urban views.
