Opened in 1927 by King George V, this government-rated five-star hotel, after undergoing a £70-million restoration, is better than ever. Top designers were called in to create contemporary interiors enlivened by chandeliers by Baccarat, paintings imported from St. Petersburg, and sofas and chairs by Fendi. Soft wool carpets, leather-bound beds, and triple-glazed windows are just some of the special features of the bedrooms. Accommodations range from a single to a family room for four. A deluxe way of staying here is to rent a studio suite with a private garden terrace. Memorable dining can be experienced in the luxurious Amba Bar and Grill.
