Camden
The slightly grimy streets of Camden are and have been the home of some of the world's best musicians, with the annual spring Camden Crawl showcasing the newest and most promising of these. Pubs such as the Barfly and the Hawley Arms, Amy Winehouse's old stomping ground, are renowned for the famous faces which frequent them on an often all too regular basis. On a sunny day, you can find the patios of the various pubs and restaurants teeming with people. The re-opening of the Roundhouse in 2006, an old steam-engine repair shed originally built in 1846, has done much to revitalise the area north of the market, with the venue hosting a dynamic cultural programme of theatre, dance, art, and live performances.
Camden Market, which lines the canal, draws in both tourists and locals alike with its eclectic mix of clothing, drug paraphernalia, jewellery & trinkets, crafts ,and food stalls. Unlike Portobello Market in West London, which is slightly more "yuppified" and focuses on antiques, Camden Market still retains its roots as an area of commerce catering to all types and needs.
