• Down a Bethnal Green side street in what has been described as London's Buddhist quarter, is this gorgeous café serving top 'home-made' vegetarian and vegan fare in plate bendingly large portions. Choose from hearty soups, two or three mains, rustled up from that day's fruit and veg haul, bowls of dense salads and tasty cakes. Of course there is a full selection of herbal teas as well as fruit juices and fair trade coffee. There is always a good smattering of locals, workers, and people who may or may not have knitted their own jumpers. The staff are great; friendly and relaxed, if a bit distracted at times. The Saturday breakfasts are hearty - remember it's shut on Sundays and Mondays. - Jen Wight
