Beer was first produced on the site of this Spitalfields landmark in the 1660s. It became the largest brewery in London and traded until 1988. Today its 11-acre Brick Lane site is the throbbing heart of trendy new Spitalfields, developed to accommodate more than 200 small creative businesses plus some of London's trendiest one-off shops and markets. Its flagship Sunday Upmarket was recently voted 'Best Market for New Designers' by Time Out. Around 200 stalls, including a large indoor food area, attracts traders from around the world, with the focus on up-and-coming designers and artists. The complex also hostsgalleries, restaurants, bars and nightspots.
