Description:
- Shooters Hill is an area in south east London. It is one of London's highest points and is thought to be named as a result of archery practice in the middle ages. It offers an excellent view of the London and the surrounding area. Places of interest include the folly, Severndroog Castle and Shooters Hill Victorian water tower. Shooters Hill is mentioned in Don Juan, A Tale of Two Cities, Pickwick Papers, Dracula, The War of the Worlds, and also in Samuel Pepys' diary. The Bull public house was opened in 1749 near the top of the hill and it became the refreshment stop for coaches. - Caroline Collard
