Description:
- A collection of jewel-like 17th century Indian manuscript paintings at the British Library use an ancient narrative technique to tell one of the worlds oldest and most important stories – the tale of Rama and Sita. You can follow their epic journey through the 100 paintings and gaze at detailed saris, a 10 headed villain (Ravana), joyous elephants with gilded trunks, sleek round-headed monkeys, trees ruffled by other worldly wind, tiny birds the size of lentils and gruesome battle scenes, all painted in breathtaking detail. Visitors can follow the numbered route on the floor to follow the story in order, or wander from area to area soaking up the glowing beauty of the paintings. - Jen Wight
