Long Beach/South Bay Attractions in Los Angeles

The Long Beach and the South Bay area is important and historic part of the Los Angeles Basin that has a lot to offer a visitor. The commercial port located here is a major economic engine and significantly affects the landscape. Some of this highly altered geography can be seen from the Vincent Thomas Bridge and surrounding highway.

In addition to it economic importance, Long Beach is home to important cultural destinations as well. These include museums like the Museum of Latin American Art (housed in an old skating rink called the Hipposdrome), the Long Beach Museum of Art and the University Art Museum at CSULB.

This seaside municipality also features the large Aquarium of the Pacific, as well as the lower-key Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and the Marine Mammal Care Center rehabilitation facility.

As far as sightseeing goes, there are some cool places to check out here. These include the historic Queen Mary (now docked here forever), the Alpine Village in Torrance (featuring the happening Alpine Tavern), and the scenic canals at Naples Island.
