  • Silver Lake and Echo Park been key locations throughout the history of Los Angeles. For example, Echo Park was home to early oil wells that helped fuel the growth of Los Angeles into a major city. Silver Lake was an important location in the early days of the film industry and is now home to a lot of important modern residential architecture.

This list starts on an architectural note with Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House. Interior tours of the house are regularly scheduled; the surrounding Barnsdall Park features great views and is home to a city run art gallery. Another Frank LLoyd house, the Ennis-Brown House, sits at number 4 (there is no access to the interior of this one).

A popular destination near here is the Las Feliz shopping district, located just north of Sunset on Vermont (near the Dresden Room).

Griffith Park is a major Los Angeles destination, with something for everyone. Items number 2 and 3 are both Griffith Park listings and item number 8, the Fern Dell Trail, is a good place to start a 1 mile hike up to Griffith Observatory. (The neat cafe in Griffith Park called the Trails Cafe is located at Fern Dell). Also check out this Griffith Park guide.

More great parks in the region include items number 5 and 6, Echo Park and Elysian Park. Echo Park is home to a lake, complete with bicycle boats for rent. Elysian Park is right next to number 7, Dodger Stadium.

Remaining items on the list include the historic church that was built by Aime Semple McPherson (it is now run in conjunction with the Dream Center) at number 9 and the well-known film school American Film Institute at number 10.
