  • This list includes some of the prime locations to take a hike in Los Angeles.

There is a great hike along park access roads to just behind the Hollywood Sign. The tricky thing with this trek first driving up through the twisty hillside roads and then finding parking near the start of the trail. For a longer hike, you can walk all the way up here from other parts of Griffith Park (a park full of hiking opportunities).

Other inner city parks with that making good hiking locations include Brand Park (in Glendale, providing access to the Verdugo Mountains) and Franklin Canyon (on the westside in the Santa Monica Mountains). Heading towards the ocean is Topanga Park, where you can get some great expansive views of the Pacific.

In addition to the beaches, heading up the coast through Malibu there are a whole string of state parks with hiking opportunities. Solstice Canyon makes for a very picturesque hike, Leo Carrillo State Park and Point Mugu State Park are also good outdoor destinations.

The list rounds out heading east towards Pasadena. Just head north from the upscale neighborhoods of Pasadena and you end up right in the San Gabriel Mountains! Millard Canyon Falls and Monrovia Canyon Falls are just two of the many hikes in this area.

Going even farther east we end up at Mt. Baldy (also called San Antonio Mountain). This is the highest peak in the whole area and the hike to the top is a classic Los Angeles area excursion.
