Tips and reviews

Here's what Trippy members say about The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites:

"The The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites is a hotel many movies have had scenes in and it has a great "rotating" bar at the top where you can enjoy great views and some appetizers if you so desire (you can get valet parking for $7 for 3 hours if you validate)."  See More

"A must would be to go to either the The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites in Downtown LA, they have a revolving bar with a 360 degree view of the city, call to see when they open, I think its around 5pm."  See More

"I hate to type bad news, but a taxi from Santa Monica, which is the closest beach to Hollywood is going to cost you $40 or $50 or more one-way and it would take 30 minutes (if there is no traffic, which is seldom the case) to an hour+. You would probably save some money using Uber. There is bus service, but it will take about 1.5 hours each way. July is peak beach season and hotels in Santa Monica are very expensive. You aren't going to find anything decent for less that $200 per night on or near the beach in Santa Monica. If you go out 20 blocks from the Santa Monica beach, you might find something in that range though. You could find something cheaper in Venice Beach, but it's even farther from Hollywood and staying in Venice Beach can be something of an acquired taste. I usually don't recommend bus tours, but there are quite few companies like !"  See More

"Check out the concerts at the Hollywood Bowl. You can see some of the best artists in the world for under $20. Just make sure you bring a pillow as the seats are rock hard. It can be notoriously hard to get to (the parking is awful) so if this is on your list you might want to consider staying at the Loews Hollywood Hotel which is very, very close. The Getty Villa is free (although parking is not) and they have great exhibitions. I would make a stop at Tower 8 at the Oceana Santa Monica either before or after. Actually, the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel is nice, for that, too. Watts Towers Arts Center is a true "only in L.A." experience. It's a sculpture/complex/giant piece of folk art that was built by an Italian immigrant in the early 20th century. Really worth seeing and only about $7 to see. I'd head north after that and check out Downtown Los Angeles where there are tons of free walking tours. Here's a good link to one of the tour companies: ."  See More

"Some of the best hotels are actually in downtown LA: The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites & The W Los Angeles - Westwood."  See More
