Description:

  • Soul food just the way mothers make it where nothing is out of the can. Opening in 1974, Bertha's is one of the oldest soul food spots in LA. The gumbo, while a bit messy, is oozing with the rice, chicken, crab and mild hot links. In Bertha's case regulars have been coming years, some for 40 plus years. The menu is filled with hearty dishes like oxtails, fried chicken and short ribs. The house-gravy, which tops everything, is rich and beefy in flavor. After all that, Bertha's doesn't disappoint with its dessert options. Try the peach cobbler and ice cream. Bertha's is a rare neighborhood find.
