Low budget hotels in Santa Monica?

Planning to visit LA and I love Santa Monica. But the hotels there seem too expensive. Is there any inexpensive but decent hotel for me to stay in there?

I would suggest Venice Beach, which is just South of Santa Monica, and check Craigslist.org for Vacation Rentals, and short term places, or VRBO.com, since hotels are usually expensive, and you pay extra for everything (parking/etc)

Unfortunately, hotels in all of LA are way over-pticed. I would check Westside Rentals and see if anyone wants to rent a room for a week or two (however long you plan to be there). I had always planned to do that when I lived in LA, but then I moved back to San Diego. BTW, you might want to check us out down here if you like beaches and clubs and local music.

The difference between the word "hotel" and "motel" means a lot in price in Santa Monica. If you want a cheap(er) hotel in Santa Monica you can try
Cal Mar Hotel
220 California Avenue
Santa Monica, CA 90403-3606
(310) 395-5555

Bayside Hotel
2001 Ocean Avenue
Santa Monica, CA 90405-1011
(310) 396-6000

Around both of those are other hotels that are in a similar or higher price range. They are both with blocks of the beach, Santa Monica Pier and Promenade.

If you actually want it to be cheap you need to go to a motel.
Try
Palms Motel
2020 14th Street
Santa Monica, CA 90405-1602
(310) 452-3861

Rest Haven Motel
815 Grant Street
Santa Monica, CA 90405
(310) 452-3977

If you just want a cheap place to stay go with the motels. If you want to spend time around the room, go with the hotels.
