Manoluk Hotel

Description:

  • An interesting choice, the Manoluk: It's eccentric, but comfy and affordable. You're a bit away from town, though, which is a drawback. The spacious rooms have polished wood floors, high ceilings, big clunky tables and chairs, and comfortable beds. The bathrooms are similarly large and clean. The huge restaurant and second-floor lounge, complete with wooden deer heads, give the place a lodge feel. If your taste runs to quality kitsch, the Manoluk is the "Velvet Elvis" of Luang Prabang: You'll appreciate the many carved elephants, fluorescent village-scene paintings, and shiny bedspreads with fringe. The lone suite is fancy in a way that your oddball uncle might like. The staff seems to be nonexistent, save for a person or two at the front desk watching the lobby TV. Somehow, that seems to suit the laid-back, private feel of the place.
