User Review:
- It is a very special, beautiful place that holds the graves of 5,076 American soldiers who died in this region in World War II, including US Third Army commander General George S. Patton, Jr., and just one woman, a nurse. The first of these soldiers were interred here on 29 December 1944. Some time in 1946 the total number of dead buried here reached 8,400, but during 1948-49 many were repatriated to the United States at the request of their families. This site receives about 60,000 visitors a year nowadays, mostly Americans, Germans, Spaniards and Chinese.
