Maritim Jolie Ville

• If you're traveling with children, the Jolie Ville is the place to stay in Luxor. Located on an island 15 minutes by taxi south of the town, the hotel has a range of features to keep the kids occupied while you relax in the nicest Nile-side horizon pool in Luxor or trek through the Valley of the Queens. The Maritim has pleasant rooms distributed in a series of shady bungalows surrounding the main building and connected to it with covered walkways. Each room has a small seating area out front, but Nile views are in the minority and fill up first, so book well in advance if this is a priority. Kid-friendly features include an all-day kids club with activities such as pottery painting and donkey races, a small zoo (some farm animals, but it does have monkeys and a crocodile), and a lifeguard at the pool. The sense of a family summer camp is sometimes reinforced by a slightly under-maintained feeling (particularly evident in the cracked tennis courts), and the food is nothing to write home about.

  Note that at the time of writing the hotel was undergoing its transition from being operated by Mövenpick to Maritim management, which may change prices or services.
