With hundreds of option for your evening soirée in Lyon, you’ll need to take a little time to decide what you’re looking for. Do you want a classy evening at one of Lyon’s many chic bars and clubs? Kicking off with thumping beats and dancing to the wee hours; La Chapelle Club is a sophisticated Gay friendly club that spins vinyl of the electronic persuasion until 4am. The Q-Boat - also in the genre of dance clubs - attracts a young crowd who come to dance to House and Techno; this time at an unusual location on the Rhone river. The moored Q-Boat stays open until 3am and offers a swanky terraced area during the daytime. And not to be missed on the dance club list; Le Loft offers varied dance music that depends on which night you want to go for a boogie.
Lyon is a great city for live music! There’s just so much of it and it’s so varied. From Heavy Rock concerts to unannounced chamber music and Reinharrdt-esque performances on street corners; the city’s music scene is eclectic with a capital ‘E’. But for music that you won’t find on street corners; Lyon has hundreds of live music venues. Top of the picks; Ninkasi Kao offers a year round program of national and international acts in a massive venue in Gerland. On the calmer end of the spectrum; Les Valseuses -in the trendy neighbourhood of Croix-Rousse - hosts concerts primarily in the acoustic and folk genre, while Le Trokson - also in Croix-Rousse – offers a variety of acts from the bars downstairs venue.
Cultural nightlife is also a big part of the mix in Lyon. The city invests hugely in cultural events and supporting the arts; which is a big plus for anyone visiting Lyon. Starting with the Lyon Opera House; tickets can tend to be a bit pricey, but the cost can be reduced by investing in a Lyon City Card (click the link for details), and in addition to the main Opera theatre, the Lyon’s Opera House transforms its mezzanine into an outdoor jazz café (Le Peristyle Jazz Café) during the summer months, and it’s free!. For orchestral music and cinema combined; Auditorium Maurice Ravels delivers a creative program that includes mixing the best of Europe’s orchestras with blockbuster movies titles.
