Lyon is famous for its gourmet foods and gastronomy traditions, but eating with children in mind can sometimes be a bit tricky when taking into account the sensitive palates of little ones. Kids are unlikely to appreciate local Lyonnaise specialities such as tête du veau (calf's head), so it's important when choosing a restaurant to know whether a childrens' menu is offered, or whether a suitable meal can be prepared.
It's sometimes the case in Lyon's restaurant that childrens' menus (menu pour les enfants) are not always advertised, but often one can be prepared by request, just check with the service staff before being seated. But for a few restaurants that definitely supply a kid's menu, check out; Opus, L'Essentiel and Brasserie Georges.
In addition to suitable foods, a restaurant with some space for play will always go down better with kids than one that's intimate. A couple of options in Lyon - where the kids will appreciate the space - include; Le Quai des Arts (complete with a huge terrace area that's secure from the nearby road) and Moulin Joli; a large and spacey restaurant that offers lots of dishes suitable for children.
Pizza is generally a good option with little ones in mind, and in Lyon there are plenty of pizzerias to choose from. Pizza Pino is a great option for the whole family. The kid's are catered for with a creative kid's menu and also the adults, who can choose from a more refined selection of Italian cuisine. And if you want to try a pizza restaurant with a long history, visit Chez Carlo; the oldest pizzeria in Lyon, which features a large terraced area.
