Lyon is famous for its wide variety of outdoor markets, and for the quality of produce and products sold at those markets. But what also makes visiting markets in Lyon interesting; many are located amidst ultra historic surroundings, which can result in a trip to the market becoming quite an inspirational event.
Top of the list for markets to visit with the added extra of super historical surrounding; Marche Aux Livres, Marche de la Creation and Marché biologique Saint-Jean are all located in historic areas of the city that will add an additional dose of inspiration as you peruse the goods of offer. All three of these markets also offer unique products and produce, including; new and second-hand books ( Marche Aux Livres), organic fresh produce ( Marché biologique Saint-Jean) and hand-made crafts ( Marche de la Creation).
Number one on the list for markets in Lyon is Halle de Lyon Paul Bocuse, the only indoor market on the list. Now, some might argue that Les Halles is not a market, that it's too prestigious to be a market, but in it's traditional makeup, Les Halles is simply an indoor market comprising 55 gourmet traders, so let's not get too snooty just because the name of Paul Bocuse has been added to the title! And finally, for a market full of atmosphere on the plateau Croix-Rousse hill; head to Marché de la Croix Rousse on Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse.
