Top 10:

Lyon Museums

  • The Best of NileGuide
  • Famous for its culture and heritage, Lyon is a city where you can expect to find high quality museums in all shapes and forms. Musée Historique de Lyon - located at the lovely Place du Petit-Collège - is top of the list for good reason. Housed in one of the city's most prized example of Renaissance architecture, Musée Historique de Lyon is the place to go to get the low-down on the history of Lyon, all delivered using state of the art media to explore the museum's historical items and artifacts. Also housed in the same Renaissance building as Musée Historique de Lyon, the charming Musée des Marionnette du Monde exhibits a collection of puppets and dolls from around the world.

Number two on the list is Lyon's Musée des Beaux-Arts, located on Lyon's main tourist magnetising square; Place des Terreaux. Musée des Beaux-Arts is housed in a beautiful building (a former Benedictine Abbey) that creates the perfect ambiance for exhibiting France's second largest collection of fine arts. But if your appreciation of museums leans more on the quirky side, try Musée des Miniatures et décors de Cinéma, housed in the historic Maison des Avocats. This museum is where you will find life expressed in miniature, but also, don't miss the outside court area where you will find some truly romantic examples of Renaissance period Florentine galleries. And for a lesser know museum, visit Maison des Canuts, which comprises a silk shop and a small museum dedicated to the craft of the 19th century Canut silk workers.
