• Accommodations, which adopt a tongue-in-cheek theme of a university dorm, are not the spartan affair you might expect; in fact, they are rather comfortable and boast a number of attractive features. Located on the right bank of the Saône within the heart of Vieux Lyon, Collège Hôtel offers 39 small but well-furnished bedrooms with immaculate linens and a choice of modern bathrooms (the best ones are the corner units with hand-held showers). Many of the bedrooms open onto private terraces or balconies. Each floor has a 1960s vintage refrigerator from which "boarders" can help themselves to free nonalcoholic drinks. Best of all is a roof garden terrace with its gym. As soon as night falls, the hotel's 130 windows light up as part of a unique light show, enhancing the magnificent 1930s facade.
