Madrid's gay and lesbian establishments are for the most part centered on Madrid's premier gay neighborhood, Chueca. So if you're looking to be in good company, there you can eat, shop, drink, party, and sleep at places that cater specifically to gays. Gay male and mixed locales are most prevalent in Madrid's gay scene, while exclusively lesbian environments are scarce.
The Plaza de Chueca square is the epicenter of the Chueca neighborhood (and ground zero for wild Gay Pride festivities in the summer). It is a popular meeting place – the Chueca Metro exit is conveniently located there – and when the weather is nice, lots of good-looking people sit for hours at the outdoor café tables.
Decorated with faintly romantic and religious items, Acuarela is a dimly lit, eclectic, and fashionable café good for a quiet drink in the afternoon or at night. Sit in the fish bowl window if you want to see and be seen.
A large and popular gay nightclub actually located far away from Chueca, Space of Sound is where fit and handsome men love to get their groove on.
