  • Intimate jazz cafes. Modern mega arenas. Cool rock bars. Fun concert halls. With lots of venues, quality artists, and devoted fans, Madrid's live music scene is certainly a vibrant one. Though rock and jazz predominate, the Spanish capital does host its fair share of hip-hop, flamenco, indie, classical, and world music.

Our first pick for live music, Café Central is a legend in Madrid for the quality of its live jazz music and the artists who play there. However, if you don't come early when a show is scheduled and claim a table, you will literally be left out in the cold with the rest of the unlucky souls.

Admittedly frequented more by visitors than by locals, Casa Patas is Madrid's premier place to catch flamenco, drink sangría, and marvel at the intense passion of good flamenco. Flamenco dance and music are of course products of Spain's south, but here they are nurtured as a national art.

The place to go for live concerts in central Madrid, the Sala Heineken regularly puts on quality concerts featuring Spanish and international artists. Metal bands are especially represented, but the Sala Heineken features bands from a number of music genres.

A cabaret style venue in an otherwise quiet neighborhood, Galileo Galelei hosts live music sessions every night of the week, as well as occasional dance, comedy, and magic shows. It's a fun, local place to catch some live music.

Another local jazz favorite, Café Populart also specializes in blues music and features artists from around the world.
