Even newer than the Catalonia Las Cortes, this pristine member of the Room Mate chain first opened its doors in April 2006. Other members of the group include Mario, near Opera, and Laura, an apartotel near the Descalzas Reales Convent; a fourth hotel, Oscar, is due for completion in December 2006. All share the same imaginative modernistic style. The compact and friendly Alicia is the fruit of prestigious interior designer López Otero, who has converted the original early-20th-century industrial building with taste and flair. It's beautifully positioned overlooking Santa Ana Square, and the rooms' large windows capitalize on the view and provide generous amounts of light. Accommodation ranges from doubles and suites to duplexes with their own small private pool. The hotel closes in August.
