Description:
This unique eating spot is one of the most secretively exclusive in all Madrid. Tucked down a narrow lane in the earthy but chic bohemian Chueca, it's a labor of love created by Chef Jaime Renedo in his mother's lavish Oriental antique shop. Consisting of just six or seven tables, the restaurant is located in a spacious alcove-filled basement among huge Chinese vases and Buddhist figures. This is one place you simply cannot walk into unannounced. You must reserve your table beforehand by international credit card and when you arrive, you ring the doorbell to be allowed to enter. All of which adds to the intriguingly private -- almost conspiratorial -- atmosphere of the place. A kind of club for lovers of truly fine cuisine, the eclectic and inventive tasting menu changes nightly. Past menus have featured delights such as melon gazpacho with lobster, ravioli with potato mousse, and fresh sea bass with a "monographic" of fresh asparagus, while sublime desserts have included marshmallow of yuzu with ginger. Be prepared to be surprised by all manner of sublime mixtures when you dine here. It's an unforgettable experience.
