FoTo celebrate your 50th, a special occasion, I recommend you Botin at calle Cuchilleros 17. Price Euro 50 per person but oldest restaurant, not cheap but good quality. You have to reserve in advance. Before the celebration visit San Miguel market for a drink or the mushroom place on the same street.
Happy birthday. Kaspar.

I agree, history (1725-oldest in the world), good food and ambiance. Althought there are many good restaurants in Madrid i would choose this one for a special evening.

I reccomend two places: Palacio de Antargu in Atocha, very ncie and good wine list and La Capilla de la Bolsa close to plaza mayor, very classy.

La Platea - very nice. Reserve the place for yourselves in advance. Spanish cuisine, quiet place in the centre near all the cool sights. http://11870.com/pro/la-platea

I would recommend Champagnería Gala. It's a festive place that serves paella and is great for groups.
