Deception Valley Lodge

Description:

• This small lodge -- comprising a new villa plus eight thatched units with Victorian-style bathrooms, outdoor showers, and a comfortable lounge -- is situated near the northern border of the Central Kalahari Reserve and offers an excellent base from which to explore this vast, arid wilderness. Accommodations, done out in the hues and tones of the desert, are raised on stilts and linked to the lodge by walkways; from the deck, you can gaze over the vastness of the Kalahari, which you can also explore on afternoon and night drives when guests are taken out in search of lion, cheetah, leopard, various desert antelope, and the occasional brown hyena. Of particular interest are the guided walks with traditional Bushmen, providing an opportunity to experience how they draw on ancient knowledge to survive the inhospitable conditions of this dry wilderness.
