Description:

  • Though this claim is largely disputed by Manhattan Beach and others, Surfrider is reputed to be the birthplace of California surfing. Whether or not that is true, the beach has gained its reputation through other means, namely having consistently good summer waves and being the filming location for Frankie Avalon/Annette Funicello movies. More importantly, this beach is the namesake for the Surfrider Foundation, a grassroots organization whose goal is to protect coastlines all over the world. Today, surfers continue to frequent this area's well-formed waves, despite warnings of eroding conditions.
