Devils Postpile National Monument

• Devils Postpile is a special place -- a small national monument showcasing unique natural volcanic rock formations near the headwaters of the San Joaquin River, where the river cuts a gorge through the High Sierra. During the summer, the monument is reachable via a 45-minute shuttle bus ride from Mammoth Mountain. Once at the end of the road, you can hike up onto the postpile itself, and also walk downstream to spectacular Rainbow Falls, a 100+ foot waterfall that flows year-round.
