NileGuide Expert Says:
One of the most peaceful and green places in the busy city..
NileGuide Expert tip:
Good place to go for a walk, a read, or a think.
Description:
A sprawling 61.5 hectares, this is the largest of the memorial cemeteries that the United States maintains in different countries around the world. Burial ground to more than 17,000 U.S. military troops, including many hundreds of members of the elite Philippine scout units, killed in the Philippines and New Guinea during World War II, it is a place that can't help but make you reflect about the sacrifices made in the past in order to have the world we are in today. As a grand mix of white marble crosses, Jewish stars, a central chapel, limestone walls inscribed with the names of another 36,000 Americans and Filipinos whose remains were never recovered, immaculate lawns, an abundance of greenery and regal trees standing at attention it is the perfect place for those looking for a bit of peace and tranquility. History buffs will also enjoy the series of mosaic murals showing the progression of the battles through the Pacific Theater.- © NileGuide User2013
