Getting There
The Manzhouli Airport (Manzhouli XiJiao JiChang) is located 9km (6 miles) southwest of the town. Purchase tickets for flights to Beijing (daily), Harbin (daily), Changchun (Wed and Sun) and Hohhot (daily) at the CITS at the International Hotel ticket office (tel. 0470/622-8319; 8:30-11:30am and 2-5pm). There is no airport shuttle to Manzhouli airport, but a taxi ride takes 20 minutes and costs ¥40 ($5.20/£2.60).
Trains connect Manzhouli to Beijing (11:56pm; 30 hr., ¥292/$38/£19), Harbin (6:30pm; 14 hr.; ¥231/$30/£15), Qiqihar (7:10pm; 11 hr.; ¥164/$21/£11), and Hailar (six daily; 3 hr.; ¥27/$3.50/£1.75). The Trans-Siberian train comes through twice a week, usually Friday and Sunday morning, with stops in Irkutsk and Moscow; book tickets through CITS. The railway station (tel. 0470/225-2261) is opposite downtown, south of the tracks; ticket office is open from 5am to 10pm. Purchase tickets for the Trans-Siberian at the business center inside the International Hotel. (Note: You must have arranged a Russian tourist visa in Beijing if you want to board the train.)
The long-distance bus station (Guoji Keyun Zhan) is north of the tracks on Yi Daojie, a 5-minute walk west of the railway footbridge. Iveco buses depart from here for Hailar (3 hr.; ¥32/$4.15/£2.10) every 30 minutes from 7:30am to 5:30pm.

Taxis charge ¥7 (90¢/45p) anywhere in town, ¥10 ($1.30/65p) between the railway station and the center; beyond 10km (6 1/4 miles), add an extra ¥10 ($1.30/65p). Several bus routes, costing ¥1 (15¢/10p), go around the town.
