  • In contrast to Morocco's overall traditional conventions, the city of Marrakesh stand out for its more cosmopolitan atmosphere and forward looking, laid-back attitude to life. In terms of nightlife, visitors can look forward to a surprisingly eclectic mix of lively entertainment, which ranges from late night music clubs, to belly dancing shows. Although a largely Islamic country, alcohol can be found in many a candle-lit rooftop bar, which are situated mostly around the Place Abdel Moumen ben Ali. The last opening nightclubs are usually located outside of the Medina old cities walls, in the new more progressive part of town. For a more intimate evening, many hotels and restaurants have inhouse bars, and various Riads offer evening entertainment, such as live music, Moroccan feasts, and dancing shows. If you're looking for a evening with a bit of style, a great place to start for a glass of wine is the terrace of the trendy Kozybar, one of the few places within the Medina which has an alcohol license. Drinks of the rooftop provide a panoramic view of the city, being a perfect spot to watch the sunset sky turn pink over the stalks nests and city rooftops. For a late night dance, Marrakesh is proud to be home to one of the few and world famous Pasha clubs. Attracting Dj's from Ibiza, New York and Amersterdam and with a 1000 person capacity, this nightclub is the place to be for night of funky dj mashups and a dance floor bustling with all the celebrities and high society swingers of the city. Otherwise, Hotel Es-Saadi's Theatro is a popular disco, especially renowned for its white Saturdays, where all the partygoers turn up dressed head to toe in white. However, it is to be remembered that despite the existence of modern hangouts, Morocco is still very much attached to its ancient traditions and mores, and wondering out into the main Median square will provide an evening of more timeless Moroccan entertainment, full of snake charming, Arabic storytelling, and traditional drumming.
