- Walter Lappert is a Hawai'i legend. He began a tiny ice cream business upon retiring in Hawai'i in the early 1980s. That tiny business quickly exploded; at this point, it has locations all over Hawai'i. Your nose will recognize this place before your eyes spot it. The scent of the fresh-baked waffle cones wafts out of the store and drifts dozens of feet away. Inside, choose from several varieties of decadent, outrageously high-butterfat ice cream. A few outdoor tables are available, most people choose to walk with their cones.
