Description:
What a find: an informal neighborhood restaurant that serves inexpensive, home-cooked Japanese food and good sushi at realistic prices. Local residents consider Ichiban a staple for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and a haven of comforts: egg-white omelets; great saimin; combination plates of teriyaki chicken, teriyaki meat, tonkatsu (pork cutlet), rice, and pickled cabbage; chicken yakitori; and sushi -- everything from unagi and scallop to California roll. The sushi items may not be cheap, but like the specials, such as steamed opakapaka, they're a good value. I love the tempura, miso soup, and spicy-ahi hand roll.
