NileGuide Expert tip:
If there is a performance playing at the Iao Theater, you should not miss the opportunity to see it. The theater house will take you back in time with its intimate layout and aged architecture.
- Iao Theater is oldest theater house in Hawaii that is still in operation. The theater, which seats roughly 300 guests, was first opened in 1928 and was the center of entertainment for the booming town of Wailuku for many years. Thanks to perseveration efforts in the 1990s and a multi-million dollar renovation, the theater hall was placed on the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior in 1995.
It is strongly advised to show up an hour or two early for your show and grab dinner at Cafe O Lei that is right next door to the theater house. Often times you can purchase a dinner and show ticket package for a reasonable price.
