    Description:

After 17 years on a parcel of land next to the Kahului post office, the popular Maui Swap Meet finally outgrew its home. In November 2008, it moved to the Maui Community College campus, in Kahului, where there is room enough for 300 vendors and plenty of parking. Every Saturday from 7am to 1pm, vendors spread out their wares in booths and under tarps, in a festival-like atmosphere that is pure Maui with a touch of kitsch. The colorful Maui specialties include vegetables from Kula and Keanae, fresh taro, plants, proteas, crafts, household items, homemade ethnic foods, and baked goods, including some fabulous fruit breads. Now students at the community college sell artwork and ceramics; the culinary-arts program has prepared food for sale. Between the cheap Balinese imports and New Age crystals and incense, you may find some vintage John Kelly prints and 1930s collectibles. Admission is 50¢, and if you go early while the vendors are setting up, no one will turn you away.

This is the only oceanfront shopping area on the island. Lushly landscaped and quite convenient to the Ka'anapali resorts, this is a popular West Maui tourist destination. Between 60 and 70 shops and restaurants are in the village, ranging from Waldenbooks to Chanel. Cinnamon Girl, Maui Dive Shop and Lahaina Scrimshaw are just a few of the local merchants you will find. Favorite dining spots include the Rusty Harpoon and Hula Grill. Shuttles transport tourists from various locations in West Maui to the shopping center. Credit card acceptance varies by merchant.
