• Three futuristic and asymmetrical looking blocks sit facing out over the Aburra Valley and onto the modernity of Medellin. These striking and unforgettable pieces of architecture make up part of the forward thinking social projects that have injected new life into the more humble barrios of Medellin. With money provided by the Spanish government, and located in the formerly violent barrio of Santo Domingo, the library can be reached by the city's metro cable system. Designed by the firm Giancarlo Mazzanti with the task of breathing a new beginning into Santo Domingo, the locals here now have a world class library that really isn't a repository of books but more a focus for the community. In the Parque Biblioteca Espana are a host of resources such that include cultural, recreational and sporting activities that aim to keep the children of the area out of the gangs by providing them access to formerly impossible and unthinkable educational riches.
