  • What’s a vacation without a little fun? Melbourne is certainly the city for fun. With an extremely lively nightlife, it’s a wonder anyone ever gets any sleep in this city. A local tip; check out Beat and Inpress magazine which come out every Wednesday and are free all over the city. These two publications will tell you all you need to know about the latest events and openings.

    As far as bars and pubs are concerned, the Australians rival most other countries when it comes to beer consumption. And there are plenty of local pubs to choose from, most boasting their own homemade beer. Check out the Old Colonial Inn or The Esplanade for the classic Australian experience. After you’ve had your fill of beer, go in search of some live music! The Epsy is a great place to start, but make sure to check local papers for news of seriously local bands. Local bands are apt to place in local bars, and this is a great way to check out the authentic Australian scene. Those who are looking for something a little less grungy and a little more refined should head to Opera Australia for a more classical, rather than classic, experience.

    For dancing, the hipper crowd flocks to the Revolver and the Viper Room. Melbourne is, of course, also known for its hopping gay scene, which centers its fun in the heart of South Yarra. If you’re looking for gay-friendly nightlife, take in the the fun at the Peel and the Glasshouse Pub. Both places are great fun for all.
