Description:
This former convent offers pleasant accommodations a short tram ride from the city center. On the city's edge, the Nunnery is well-situated near the restaurant and nightlife of Brunswick and Lygon streets, in nearby Carlton. This informal, friendly place is well suited to couples and families. The Nunnery is split into three separate buildings: the Guesthouse, the Townhouse, and the Nunnery Budget Accommodation. Built in the 1860s, the Guesthouse has high ceilings, handmade light-fittings, polished floorboards, marble fireplaces, and a hand-turned staircase. The Townhouse was built in the early 1900s, and is comfy, stylish, and decorated with tasteful furnishings and artwork. Rooms in both buildings have wooden floors, rugs, and leafy views, and are lovely. All rooms share bathrooms. There are no elevators. The Budget accommodation is in the former home of the Daughters of Charity, built in the 1880s. It features a grand staircase, stained-glass windows, and religious artwork. The rooms are simple (some come with a TV) but pleasant, and there are dorm accommodations, too. All rooms are nonsmoking.
