The Mitre is a real find for those in search of the history of Melbourne. Built around 150 years ago, the pub resembles a rural inn that could be found in the heart of England. Dwarfed by tall modern buildings, and located down a little alleyway, it's slightly hard-to-find location also makes it something special. Popular with suit types who are perhaps sick of pretentious restaurants, the Mitre offers good old fashioned style pub grub. The pepper sauce that accompanies the steak is said to be the best in Melbourne. On Friday afternoons they often put on a free bbq, which draws in the crowd from everywhere. Certainly worth a visit.
