Vegie Bar (The)

• When it opened more than twenty years ago, the whole vegie scene was not as trendy as it is now, yet even then this Fitzroy icon would be full nearly every time of the day. Even popular with carnivores, perhaps because their menu is dotted with pizzas and burgers (without the meat), a good place to start (especially if nursing a hangover) is the Mexican burrito. There is free wifi which attracts the bohemian writer crowd who nurse a coffee and Cran-Brie Pizza for an entire afternoon. The bare warehouse setting gives a social communal vibe, and the staff seemed to be enjoying what they do, as if Vegie Bar was a place they enjoy coming to, not just their employment
