Observatory Café

Description:

  • Observatory Café occupies a prime position on the edge of the Royal Botanic Gardens (Melbourne), with views of the miniature Old Observatory, built in the 1800s to map the stars. Floor-to-ceiling glass gives the modern interior an indoors–outdoors feel. The menu includes lots of fresh ingredients, many grown in the café's vegetable and herb garden, and specials emphasize seasonal produce. As well as breakfasts, sandwiches and pies, diners can purchase picnic baskets to enjoy in the gardens, or meat to cook on courtyard barbecues. Next door is the Children's Garden, and The Shrine of Remembrance looms large across the road. -Jo-Anne Woodward
