• This family owned business was established in 1985 by the late Denis Pooley and his wife Margaret. They decided to plant a few rows of pinot noir and riesling grapes on their 16 hectare farm in the stunning Coal River Valley in Southern Tasmania. Margaret, who is well into her 90s now, can still be found tending vines even in the winter months. Her grandson, Matthew, is now the chief winemaker and general manager. Her son Dennis and his wife bought and lovingly restored the heritage-listed sandstone home, Belmont, in 2003 and it now houses the cellar door. One of the vineyards is on the hill adjacent to Belmont. In 2007 the Pooley Riesling and Pinot Noir took home twenty-two medals and trophies at the Tasmanian Wine Show, and continues to produce award-winning wines.
