Description:

  • Melbourne is generally regarded as having one of the world's best live music scenes and a visit to the city would not be complete without experiencing it. From loud guitar driven bands at the iconic Tote and Esplanade Hotels, to the sweet sounds of Bennett's Jazz Lane and Manchester Lane there is something for everyone. Alternative acts from overseas tend to play at the Corner Hotel in Richmond and the Northcote Social Club. Tiny backrooms in pubs also play a host of folk, blues and sometimes poetry. The best places to see these are the Empress Hotel (Nth Fitzroy), Labour in Vain (Fitzroy) and Dan O Connell (Carlton). Street press newspapers Beat and Impress have full listings of where and who are playing.
