The Question
Public Question Asked by Yahoo Traveler about Melbourne
Which Melbourne inner-city neighborhood or suburb should I move to?
I'm about to have a job transfer from Sydney to Melbourne (thank god!) and wondering where I should live? I have extended family over in Melbourne and have visited quite a few times and just love the place! I'm in my early 20s, love to go clubbing and dine out. I'm looking for the following attributes for a neighborhood: 1) Safe - I want to be able walk around without being on edge 2) Decent public transport - as I'm looking at ridding my car 3) Good quality restaurants and cafes - without having to resort to going to the CBD (unless you recommend that I move to the CBD) 4) Somewhere within 10km of the CBD - this is a must! 5) No bogan, riff raff, muzzteks, hoons, etc. vibe in the area - preferably an area that respects those who want to be individuals (yourself, without conforming to stereotypes, etc. or feeling expected to do so by the area's vibe or demographic), preferably no yuppies either, although I would tolerate them. If anyone from Melbourne can help me out that would be

if you are wanting a nice classy area - you could try the inner eastern Suburbs of Melbourne goping a far out as Box Hill and Doncaster - Still Inner Melbourne and very suburbia . . and has good bus transport tht goes right through to 1am in the morning dfirect to the city along the freeway which is about a good 15 mins drive into the city via the eastern freeway and also TOLL free unles you pass Springvale road and you can in fact see the city very very clearly . . . and these are a nice quiet and well to do and classy area and nice larger type homes - I Live in Donvale near to Doncaster and have done so for the past 9 years and highly recommend the area and know the transport system well enough to guide and help you out and get your sorted and settled and am extremely resourceful - so please fell free to contact me directly if you need any further assistance

Probably Carlton or North Melbourne would be good options as they are serviced well with trams and plenty of good restaraunts and cafes

Agreed with Beverly, I live in North Melbourne myself so it's close to the city. Fitzroy is another good place to live as it's close to Smith St where bars, restaurants, a couple of shopping outlets are.

North Melbourne,Carlton or Fitzroy. Fitzroys Brunswick street area is a hub of trendy cafes and clothing shops and also has some decent bars including Bar Open, First Floor
