Description:
Melbourne's beer scene in recent times has exploded. From craft breweries popping up all around inner Melbourne to the changing tastes of experiencing some of Europe's finest, this city will never go dry. Here are some of the best places to have a brew or two.
Day Note:
Beer Delux's beer menu is incredibly impressive and there is no better way to start the tour, then sitting in Federation Square, having a few brews while the sun goes down.
Cookie not only has a huge array of beer it is also an excellent restaurant.

Description:
A paradise for beer drinkers who like to taste some of the best local and international craft beer the world has to offer, Beer Delux has arguably the best beer list in the Melbourne. Reaching twenty pages, the real problem will be choosing which one to have. The venue itself has an assortment of spaces. There is the hamburger bar, on Federation Square itself, that's serves up tasty fare (especially on Thursdays when they have beer/burger specials), the beer garden area which is great for those balmy summer nights and the elegant inner sanctum that is comfortable without being snooty.

Description:
Cookie is a funky spot to grab a pint and a bite to eat. In the evening (and a few pints later) feel free to break out the moves on the dancefloor.
Day Note:
The European has a great selection of beers on tap and in the bottle and is a popular place with the after work crowd. Their chicken parma is also highly regarded. Biero Bar has arguably the city's best tap list with an assortment of hard to find brews from here and abroad. Wednesday is $5 pint night.

Description:
Visiting Biero Bar is seeing and tasting something totally unique. In 2010, two university students created world first technology by being able to tap bottled beer and put it into air tight cylinders. The idea seems easy but the results have taken Melbourne's beer loving scene by storm. The beer list focuses on Australia's craft beer scene as well little breweries from around the world. The surrounds are somewhat clinical, but the easy going nature of the staff and the brew industry who pop their heads into alleviate this. Wednesdays afternoon is the best time to visit as everything on tap is half price. They also make great pizzas, and naturally the doe is made partly from beer.
Day Note:
The Rainbow's recent change of ownership has brought a real focus on beer, especially those from local breweries. With a great beer garden and live tunes most nights of the week, its a great destination. The Fox is a great local, that offers some incredibe drops. It's kitchen if better than the average pub and its rooftop deck is perfect for those warmer nights (heated in winter). Their beer collection that line the walls is one of the best in the city.

Our Local Expert Says:
One of the best backstreet pubs in Melbourne. Great to hear some tunes and sample some interesting local brews.
Description:
In early 2011, the iconic Rainbow Hotel got new management and locals were alarmed that Fitzroy's home of music would change forever….they shouldn't have worried. The sounds of guitar and the occasional brass horn can still be heard most nights of the week, and with subtle renovations including extending the beer garden and giving more space to the bands in the main bar, locals and a whole new breed of music lover are happy. Plans are also underway to create a beer focused bar upstairs which will cap off the place nicely since they brag to have over 100 beers available. The roast lunch on Sundays is a real highlight and an ideal accompaniment for those that want to listen to some tunes around 4pm.

Our Local Expert Says:
Put simply a great local pub, with an impressive beer list, great rooftop deck and hearty food.
Description:
A few years ago, two women took over a rundown struggling hotel devoid of customers, and have since made it into one of the best pubs in Melbourne. Many head straight for the rooftop that looks over the Collingwood skyline towards the city, but be sure to see the beer bottle collection that line the wall downstairs. There is live music a few times a week and the kitchen serves better than average fare, including a great Sunday roast (and happy hour). The beer list is impressive and service from the predominately female staff is always friendly. Rare in Collingwood, the Fox is popular with locals and visitors from down the freeway.
Day Note:
The Local Taphouse is Melbourne's beer destination, with a great assortment of local brews on one of its many taps. We recommend you buy the paddle and pick a few to taste. Tuesday nights is Ale Stars night, where beer lovers experience some rare drops.

Get a tasting paddle to experience more of what's on offer.
Description:
Beer lovers take notice. The Local Taphouse has some of the best array of beers in the land. What makes it more appealing is that many beers appear on tap (they have 20 taps) and most come from Victoria's burgeoning craft beer scene. The bottom floor resembles an English pub but for those that like the beer under the stars, the rooftop deck is the first choice for many. The place also has many beer events so it's worth signing up to their mailing list to see what's on each week. We recommend joining the Ale Stars that meet monthly to discuss and partake in drinking a few brews. A locker is given to every member just to give that Munich style vibe.
